11-3-22   THOUGHTS

The picture of the Lord’s people being marvelously planted and then failing to bear good fruit is seen all too often in God’s Word.  We must ever pay attention to our being THE LORD’S PLANTING!  Help us to THINK FRUIT, O Lord!

Ps 80:1-11    Oh, give ear, Shepherd of Israel, You who lead Joseph like a flock; You who are enthroned above the cherubim, shine forth!  2  Before Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh, stir up Your power And come to save us!  3  O God, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved. 4  O LORD God of hosts, How long will You be angry with the prayer of Your people? 5  You have fed them with the bread of tears, And You have made them to drink tears in large measure. 6  You make us an object of contention to our neighbors, And our enemies laugh among themselves.   7  O God of hosts, restore us And cause Your face to shine upon us, and we will be saved.  8  You removed a vine from Egypt; You drove out the nations and planted it. 9  You cleared the ground before it, And it took deep root and filled the land.  11  It was sending out its branches to the sea And its shoots to the River. 12  Why have You broken down its hedges, So that all who pass that way pick its fruit?

Isa 5:1-7   Let me sing now for my well-beloved A song of my beloved concerning His vineyard. My well-beloved had a vineyard on a fertile hill.  2  He dug it all around, removed its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. And He built a tower in the middle of it And also hewed out a wine vat in it; Then He expected it to produce good grapes, But it produced only worthless ones. 3  "And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah,
Judge between Me and My vineyard. 4  "What more was there to do for My vineyard that I have not done in it? Why, when I expected it to produce good grapes did it produce worthless ones? 5  "So now let Me tell you what I am going to do to My vineyard: I will remove its hedge and it will be consumed; I will break down its wall and it will become trampled ground. 6  "I will lay it waste; It will not be pruned or hoed, But briars and thorns will come up. I will also charge the clouds to rain no rain on it." 7  For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel And the men of Judah His delightful plant. Thus He looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed; For righteousness, but behold, a cry of distress.                 [a few verses later...]
Isa 5:11-12   Woe to those who rise early in the morning that they may pursue strong drink, Who stay up late in the evening that wine may inflame them!  12  Their banquets are accompanied by lyre and harp, by tambourine and flute, and by wine; But they do not pay attention to the deeds of the LORD, Nor do they consider the work of His hands.
Mark 4:8  "Other [seeds] fell into the good soil, and as they grew up and increased, they yielded a crop and produced thirty, sixty, and a hundredfold."

My Prayer:
Teach us, O Father, to be fishers of men.  Help us to bear fruit for the Kingdom.  Enrich our lives,  and make us alive to the processes that give men eternity with You, O Lord.   In the name of Jesus,   Amen.
